VaraMahaLakshmi festival – the annual festival celebrating MahaLakshmi is on 31.Jul, this year. The Glattbrugg Shiva temple will have special poojas to celebrate this auspicious festival including a ‘Vilakku Pooja’ in the evening. The program commences around 5 p.m.
The festival is celebrated traditionally in the southern states of Andhra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Some homes have the tradition of keeping a kalasam(brass or copper pot) and a coconut and mano leaves on top with a silver face of the Goddess and following a proper Puja method ( puja vidhanam) with specific neivedhyams or offereings. It is also customary to invite other ladies home for Thamboolam. In other homes, it is simple puja and sweet offerings.
